I started this site to post interesting bits of trade news that are relevant to daily life.

Why trade?

So how did I end up working in the exciting world of trade? Like most people in the industry I started out in a completely different field. I studied newspaper reporting and editing along with journalism at San Jose State University. My interest was focused on financial reporting such as covering quarterly earning releases, covering interesting social media and business trends, local economics and international business.

After working in journalism I decided to look for different opportunities in the world of international business, an area I found fascinating. International trade is a lot like journalism because it piques my curiosity, challenges me to stay updated on the ongoing changes and allows me to share my knowledge with others about the business. I enjoy explaining to people what a tariff is and interesting patterns I’ve discovered while updating duty and tax rates for newly-signed regional trade agreements.

I currently work at FedEx Trade Networks as a trade content analyst building and updating the database with accurate duty and tax rates. I’m also interested in the export compliance side of the business such as denied party screening, ITAR and encryption.

In my free time I’m actively involved in the community cooking and serving food to the homeless on Saturdays, building homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina/Rita in New Orleans and serving as a volunteer for Women in International Trade – Northern California (WIT-NC).
